The Denver Post is reporting that Mina Brees, mother of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, has died during a visit to Denver on Friday.
Mina, 59, was a prominent Austin attorney and former president of the Austin Bar Association who was recently subpoenaed by the Texas attorney general's office.
Marty Akins, Mina Brees' brother who is also a lawyer, told the Austin American-Statesman that he was told Friday morning that Brees died while visiting her son Reid. Akins said he did not know the cause of her death.
The Denver Post confirmed her death with another family member.
Last week, Texas attorney general's office investigators subpoenaed Mina Brees' records after her office sent letters to scores of Houston and Austin restaurant owners demanding at least $20,000 to continue using their businesses' names.
