Mystics Manage Win Over Detroit, 70-66

Three Pointers Poise Team For Win

It was three-point conversion night, just when the Mystics needed it, to help the Mystics stave off the Detroit Shock on Friday at home.

Both Monique Currie and Crystal Langhorne's three-pointers helped the Mystics stay in the game.

"I thought that was the biggest play of the game", Beard said of Currie's three-point play with 2:47 left. "Monique getting the ball and taking it down and getting that and one. That was a big play for us.''

Adding to the roster of play makers was Alana Beard with 15 points and six assists to help the Mystics with the 70-66 win.

Nakia Sanford had 14 points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes for Washington, while teammate Crystal Langhorne rounded out the evening with nine rebounds.Detroit's reserve center, Kara Braxton, led her team with 14 points and six rebounds. Deanna Nolan scored twelve 12 on the evening, while former Mystic, Taj McWilliams, added six points and seven rebounds for the Shock.

Detroit's center Cheryl Ford, twisted her right leg in an attempt to draw a foul off a Mystics shot leaving teammate Olayinka Sanni to step in to make two shots from the charity stripe in her stead.

Ford, the 2007 WNBA All Star MVP who was quite shaken after the incident, especially since having two prior knee surgeries, is reported to be doing well after the incident.

The two teams meet again this Tuesday at the Verizon Center, at 7pm.
