Scheduled To Face “Contender” Teammate Jonathan Reid
Ice Promotions announced today that Jimmy Lange (30-3-2, 21 KOs) will return to the ring Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Patriot Center to defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) U.S. National Boxing Championship (USNBC) 154-pound title against his former teammate from The Contender, Jonathan Reid (34-11, 19 KOs), in the 12-Round Main Event. Tickets, ranging in price from $30 to $500 for VIP Ringside, are now on sale and available for purchase through the Patriot Center box office and all area Ticketmaster outlets.
The event, dubbed “Saturday Night Fights” and presented by Valcourt Building Services, will give Beltway boxing fans the opportunity to see an all-star lineup of the region’s best and most exciting fighters. Scheduled to compete are former light welterweight world champion DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley of Washington, D.C., rising national lightweight prospect Bayan “The Mongolian Mongoose” Jargal fighting out of Arlington, VA, undefeated 19-year old junior middleweight Juan “Savior” Rodriguez from Haymarket, VA, fiery Bolivian-American featherweight Jennifer “The Bolivian Queen” Salinas of Manassas, VA and tough Columbia, MD middleweight Tony “Mo Better” Jeter.
Arguably the area’s most popular fighter, Lange, of Great Falls, VA, is currently ranked #11 by the NABF and #34 in the world by the WBC at 154 pounds. He was featured on the debut season of the boxing reality show, The Contender, with hosts “Sugar” Ray Leonard and Sylvester Stallone, lasting to week eight on the NBC series before dropping a decision to Joey Gilbert. He was voted back as a Fan Favorite where he defeated Tarick Salmachi. Last May, the Northern Virginia boxer, who has headlined all seven pro shows at Patriot Center before thousands of enthusiastic fans, dominated veteran Frank Houghtaling to earn a five-round TKO and capture the WBC regional title.
Meanwhile Reid, fighting out of Nashville, TN, was eliminated by Jesse Brinkley in week two on The Contender where he served as Lange’s teammate on the East Coast squad. Since the show, Reid has battled against world-class talents such as Pawel Wolak, Maxim Vlasov and Paul Smith. Earlier in his career, Reid lost a WBA middleweight title fight to former world champion and DC native William Joppy.
Doors open at 6:30pm with the first fight set for 7:30pm. Tickets, priced at $30, $60, $85, $100, $125, $200, $300 and $500 (plus applicable service charges), can be purchased through Ticketmaster by logging onto www.ticketmaster.com, calling 703-573-SEAT, 202-397-SEAT or 410-547-SEAT or by visiting any Ticketmaster outlet, including the Patriot Center box office.
