It was a thrill of a game between the Howard University Bison and the Oregon State Beavers, as Howard edged Oregon State, 47-45 in the season opening game at Burr Gymnasium.
Oregon State, 0-18 last year, are now under the tutelage of Craig Robinson, the brother of first-lady, Michelle Obama.
The game was a test of skill between the two teams and remained fairly close throughout.
But in the end, the game came down to a series of fourth quarter fouls that would decide the fate of the two teams.
Howard center, Paul Kilpatrick, fouled Oregon State's Seth Tarver sending him to the foul line with just under :30 seconds in the game.
Tarver would connect on a pair of free throws bringing Oregon State within 1 point, 46-45.
A foul by Oregon State sent the Bisons to the foul line, where they missed the opportunity for a chance to lead.
Oregon State regained possession and went down court, finding Daniel Deane in a drive to the basket for two points, only to have Deane travel on the play.
Howard, again, regained possession with just :10 seconds left in the contest.
Oregon State again fouled Howard sending forward, Eugene Myatt to the foul line for two shots. Myatt would connect on the first free throw giving Howard a 47-45 advantage with under 8.2 seconds left in the game.
Oregon State held possession off the miss of Myatt's second free-throw, again finding forward, Daniel Deane with just six seconds remaining in an attempt to tie the game.
Deane's hardy drive to the basket rolled around the tip of the basket, but eventually fell off to the side, giving Howard the win.
Howard's Eugene Myatt scored 13 points on the night, while Oregon's Seth Tarver added 10 in front of Daniel Deane's 7 points and 9 rebounds.
An elated Howard Bison, 1-0, faces Navy this Sunday at 1 pm in Annapolis.

He looks just like his siter.
Robinson and Oregon State played well, minus the attitude (technical foul by Hampton), and I thought the team was well prepared.
I'm sure OS will have a win soon!
