Redskins Welcome Home Luncheon

August 29, 2007 – The 46th Annual Washington Redskins Welcome Home Luncheon was held today at the swanky Ritz Carlton Hotel in Tysons Corner, VA.

The luncheon gives fans the chance to see their favorite ‘Skins up close and personal, and serves as the official kick off event for the start of the new season.

It’s also where old school Redskin players join the leaders of the new school.

Several veteran players were on hand, the likes of which included Roy Jefferson, Mark Mosely, and Charley Taylor.

This year’s luncheon awarded three players for their outstanding skills on the field.

Special Teams Player of the Year Award, presented by Pat Fischer, went to Rock Cartwright.

Defensive Player of the Year Award, presented by
Sam Huff, went to Sean Taylor.

Offensive Player of the Year Award, presented by Mark Rypien, went to Chris Samuels.

Says Gibbs of the ’07 season, “We have no excuses, we’ve been given everything. We have a great group of guys, and the best fans in the world.”

The luncheon was also host to a ‘silent’ auction that was anything but, as former NBC sports anchor, George Michael, the luncheon’s Master of Ceremony, and auctioneer, rallied to get the highest bid for the items.

Auction items included signed player helmets and jerseys, jewelry from Tiffany & Co.

• Two tickets to the October 28th FedExField Redskins vs. Patriots game
• A chance for a lucky kid to be on the field to observe the coin toss at the December 30th Redskins vs. Dallas game at FedExField, and
• Two tickets to Super Bowl XLII in Phoenix, AZ, February 3rd.

Proceeds from the event go toward the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation.

The Redskins, 2-1 in preseason action, are hoping to get another win when they face
Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday (8/30).

The Redskins, celebrating 75 years, and still going. We certainly wish them well.

Meal: Romaine lettuce salad with olives and tomatoes. Main course. Fillet mignot, whipped potatoes, asparagus, and baby carrot. Dessert: Mini chocolate football cake with a vanilla cream filling, with berries and raspberry sauce served on the side.

Parting Gifts: An official Redskins 75th Anniversary commemorative drinking class, DVD, and the latest copy of Capitol File magazine.
